Country Star Lorrie Morgan’s Husband Randy White Dies — Details #49

The 65-year-old country singer is facing a personal loss, as her family shares statements following the death of someone close to her.

Randy White, who was married to “Something in Red” singer Lorrie Morgan for more than a decade, has died at the age of 72. His death came just weeks after Morgan canceled a series of performances earlier this year to focus on family matters.

White passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, June 1, 2025, after being diagnosed with mouth cancer in 2024, according to a statement from Morgan’s manager, Tony Conway.

Morgan announced her husband’s death in a Facebook post. She described White, her partner of 17 years, as her “champion” and “rock.” In her message, she expressed heartbreak and remembered him as a kind man whose love was a blessing.

White’s death also prompted a deeply personal tribute from Morgan’s son and his stepson, Jesse Keith Whitley, on the same platform. Writing from White’s hospice room, Whitley reflected on their years together and credited White for embracing him and his sister as his own, offering unwavering support and compassion.

He recalled moments when White offered help without hesitation — picking him up during late-night calls, even from jail, always without anger.

Whitley also spoke about how White helped reconnect him with faith, noting the spiritual influence White had on his life despite their different upbringings. He praised White’s devotion to Morgan and their family, calling him the most gentle soul to ever grace their lives.

He ended his message with a heartfelt farewell, “We will miss you always and forever and our hearts are shattered in losing you. But you have fought one helluva fight RanMan! Rest easy say hello to everyone and love on Weezy [sic].”

In the weeks before White’s passing, Morgan’s touring schedule began to shift in response to his health needs.

As reported in April, Morgan canceled her scheduled concerts and appearances due to a personal health matter concerning White. According to her manager, White had been readmitted to a hospital in Middle Tennessee, where he was receiving treatment for mouth cancer.

The couple had requested continued privacy and support during that time. The announcement came amid Morgan’s ongoing tour with country music group Alabama. To accommodate the change, fellow country artist Pam Tillis stepped in to take Morgan’s place on the tour temporarily.

Known for hits like “Maybe It Was Memphis” and “Shake The Sugar Tree,” Tillis also collaborated with Morgan over the years. The two recorded multiple songs together, including “I Am A Woman” and “I Know What You Did Last Night.” Most recently, they performed as a duo on the 2024 special “CMT Giants: Alabama.”

Morgan, a 65-year-old Nashville-born singer, has been a fixture in country music since becoming the youngest member of the Grand Ole Opry in 1984. Her songs “Except for Monday” and “What Part of No,” remain among her most well-known.

In April 2024, she publicly shared White’s diagnosis in a Facebook post that read, “I asked my team to release this information today: Opry Star’s Husband Undergoing Cancer Treatment… We deeply appreciate the prayers and well wishes, and for continued support and privacy as we focus on Randy’s health and on our family at this time.”

White, a retired entrepreneur from Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, married Morgan in a private beachside ceremony on September 15, 2010. At the time of their wedding, he owned a private property design and landscape company and had four children. The couple lived just outside of Nashville.

This is Morgan’s sixth marriage, and her first to someone outside the music industry. Her first was to Ron Gaddis, a musician in George Jones’ band. They married in 1979, divorced in 1981, and share a daughter, Morgan Anastasia. In 1986, she married country singer Keith Whitley.

Whitley died in 1989 from alcohol poisoning. Morgan was later married to Brad Thompson, a bus driver for Clint Black, from 1991 to 1993. She then wed singer-songwriter Jon Randall in 1996; they divorced in 1999. Her fifth marriage was to singer Sammy Kershaw, beginning in 2001 and ending in 2007.

In a December 2024 Facebook post, Morgan reflected on a family photo, writing, “3 years ago. A healthy Ran at Christmas time. He is making some progress. I miss us there. We are strong and he is determined. I love you RanRan. Merry Christmas.”

Morgan was actively promoting her tour up until recently. In February 2025, she posted on Instagram, “ON SALE NOW! Join me with @TheAlabamaBand at @FootprintCNTR this April 17 in Phoenix, AZ! Get tickets before it’s too late, and we can’t wait to see you at the show.”

However, White’s hospitalization prevented her from performing at those scheduled shows. She was still expected to appear at the Grand Ole Opry House on Saturday, May 17. During that period, Morgan remained musically active through recording and other projects.

Her latest album, “Dead Girl Walking,” was released on June 28, 2024, through Cleopatra Records. It was her first album of all original material since 2016 and contains ten tracks. The project was deeply personal and challenging, as it was developed during the loss of her longtime producer and close friend, Richard Landis.

In an interview published in early 2024, Morgan explained the difficulties she faced during the making of the album.

“It’s not a fun thing losing your friends in this industry. Richard and I made my musical career.[..] He was just a big instrumental, and instrumentally played a huge part of how I sang, how I got my voice.[..] The album was just put on hold till I figured out what I wanted to do,” she revealed.

“Richard had[…] talked us through[…] what his plan was with every song, you know how it’s gonna be. So, we knew the direction, basically, that we wanted to take the album in. It was just not having him there. You know? So, it took long. The label got impatient, you know, trying to get the label out to LA,” she added.

At the time, officials provided no further updates on White’s condition, and Morgan offered no additional comment on when she would return to touring.
